Remix culture (mashups) is everywhere in today's society. It's seen in music, films, sculptures, paintings, etc. It is the art form of mixing, rearranging and rethinking already existing pieces and mashing them together to make something new and unique.  As other might think this as stealing art works from the the original artist, it really isn't. It's sampling and taking inspiration of one design to make something new that may have new narratives.





"Beautiful Melody"

A piano filled with flowers. To me, making music is like tending a garden. When you take your time, hard work and love into it, your results will end beautiful and sweet.














"Bell Flower"

A flower as a bell. I got the idea from an actual flower call the campanula bell flower and made it into a literal design of being a bell shaped as the flower.














"Rose Coloured Glasses"

With the saying lavie en rose or "looking through rose coloured glasses" this is also another existing saying that I took into a literal sense and made rose glasses.
















 "Octoplant"

Lately I've been into those cute window plants, so why not put them in a cute little flower pot.


















 "Pretty Words"

This a kind of out of the blue idea with the bullhorn and flower. But as I was making the design, I kinda started thinking it could mean speaking pretty words instead of ugly remarks.










 "When Key's Fly"

This came to me because I have a track record of losing my things, especially keys. It represents how keys seem like they just fly away when I'm not looking.
















"Spawn of Satan"

I have a cat and we piratically have a love-hate relationship. She looks calm and cuddly but once you try to go near her, she's the devil.

















"Knockoff Narnia"

The idea for the boat arising from the cup came from the third movie of Narnia, where the painting of a ship in Lucy's room suddenly started spout out water.

Castle in the sky

This was the type of project I didn't know how to start. When thinking of castles, usually the first type of castles that pops into mind are the princess-Disney-medieval European castles. But thinking further, I remembered Asia has pretty neat castles of their own —  so I went to research some castles from East Asia and that's when I got inspired. Since I really like making things more on the fantasy side of the spectrum, I wanted mine to be a castle floating in the sky. The Blue Castle in Japan was one of the main inspirations to the look of my castle. I started off with the smaller buildings surrounding the castle, which was not too hard since they were just basic extruded rectangle and squares. The hardest parts of the building may have been building the roofs. It took me awhile, but since roof isn't exactly a regular triangle, I figured out I had to loft a rectangle to a slimmer rectangle to make the shape of it.     Next was making the castle itself. Lord of the rings: Last minute changes and Outsourcing

So as a last minute decision, I ended up changing the ring I wanted to go forward with. I went off it based from the second thumbnail from the concept sketches and built more on to it to make it more complex.  This is my proof sheet for it: For the final ring, I had to do a lot of experimenting on the flowers and the leaves. During this whole process, the flow command did not like me at all, but i managed to find a way to make it work. Here are the renders: So the thing I was most worried for was probably how the ring would turn out in shapeways. Since I had a lot of thin parts of the ring. I was wondering if I'd have many fixes to do once I check the tolerance test. At first there was a lot of red places but once I changed the material to 'Smooth Fine Detail Plastic' it turned out fine. There's some little red parts, but I don't think it'll affect the final product all too much. So I think I'll risk it. :D

Lord of the Rings: Prototype

From last weeks peer evaluation, thumbs 5,7, and 13 seemed to be the most interesting to others and I do agree with it. These were the few designs I was already leaning towards to.  For these ring prototypes, I just went for the basic shape and details of the rings. Here's the proof sheet: This is the 3D version: I struggled a lot on the flow tool for the middle three piece flower ring, since it wouldn't go one the surface the way I wanted it to. But with a lot trials and errors, I ended up with a happy accident and got it on there somehow. For now, I'm kinda stuck on which rings I want to go forward with, but the second and third ones would seem to be the ones that would be difficult but more fun to further work with.
